Who We Are?
We’re just like you. We want to provide our children and grandchildren with the best future possible. We’re a dedicated team of professionals, working hard to provide our students with the knowledge and guidance that they need to succeed but can’t get anywhere else.
We have learned our lessons, sometimes the hard way from not having the right support system. But that means our students won’t have to. We ask the right questions and help students overcome their challenges from day 1 so they don’t have to struggle in the future. We provide students with the right tools to get ahead. We analyze and leverage a vast amount of information to facilitate student enrollment in post-secondary education.
Our College-Prep Program is one of the best around the nation which helps students graduate with a high GPA while we help them accessing scholarships amounting to thousands of dollars. We support the US Armed Forces by preparing their recruits to do well in their ASVAB exam. Our Coaches are experts who raise our students’ scores an average of 35%.
NotJustMath’s team of highly skilled Coaches has decades of experience in education. We are committed each year to ensure that 100% of our high school students will be enrolled in post-secondary education after graduating high school.
Ricardo Duncan – a former Project Engineer at the Walt Disney Company With Over 20 Years Of Experience Turning Students’ Dreams Into Reality
Coach Duncan is the Head Math Coach and Founder of NotJustMath Tutoring Center. He has operated NotJustMath since 2015 right after he pursued his MBA at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management.
He started teaching Mathematics 20 years ago in Connecticut while he attended Norwalk Community College’s Engineering Pathway Program. He was the 1st student to complete and to graduate from that program, and to transfer to the University of Connecticut (also known as UCONN) where he got his B.S. in Electrical Engineering in 2000.
A few years later, he was recruited by the Disney Corporation to be part of a special team where he became their Lead Project Engineer who made sure that the Disney Parks and Resorts never suffered any downtime to any power issues. In 2009, he started his own company DGS, Inc. which provides energy-engineering consulting services and equipment to make sure hospitals, universities and corporations can run 24/7.
In 2011, his passion for teaching mathematics to our youths led him to work for Miami-Dade County Public Schools where he assumed a key role coaching Math Teachers on how to effectively teach their students. On special occasions, he’s been invited by schools like MAST Academy, ADA Merit and the Village of Pinecrest to discuss with students the benefits of renewable energy.

ABOUT OUR TUTORING CENTER
The 6 Ways We Change Lives,
For Both Kids & Adults.
Learning new skills and trying out new techniques is challenging! But when you persevere in the face of a challenge, and come out on top, you realize you’re smarter, stronger and more capable than you ever thought possible!
Realizing this makes you feel more confident. You feel more sure of your ability to handle whatever other challenges life throws your way too. Both kids and adults feel their self-esteem and confidence soar quickly on their new exciting journey to learn mathematics!
Excelling in math requires much practice. You’ll learn through a trial and error process to integrate different acquired principles to arrive at a logical conclusion. Practice makes perfect in math like it does in so many other aspects of life. All our students, especially our student-athletes and our students who play an instrument apply this mindset very well.
However, realizing this requires self-discipline. With that, you’ll become more engaged by taking the initiative to complete your assignments on your own when you are at home or at school away from our tutoring center. Self-discipline is a valuable cognitive asset that is used throughout life inside as well as outside of any classroom… “not just math”!
Learning mathematics is a ton of fun…with the right teacher of course! You’ll learn all kinds of new skills and techniques like creating the basis for systemic thinking, and developing the ability to analyze and solve problems. But… when you learn something new, you have to concentrate on listening to the instructor, then perform what they taught you.
The cool thing is that this intense focus naturally pours into all other areas of your life as you develop spot on focus. It’s one of the most amazing side effects of mathematics — many call it getting in the zone, unlocking your hidden potential, or peak performance. Whatever you want to call it, one thing is for sure — you’ll learn how to focus your mind to perform things you once thought were impossible.
At NotJustMath, we have high expectations for all our students who in turn learn to set high expectations for themselves. Our mantra is why would you settle for a “B” if we give you all the tools to get an “A”? The most remarkable part for both kids and adults is that the concrete and abstract thinking that we are teaching you here in math will build your brain’s muscles, which in turn prepares you for other academic pursuits.
You will be amazed that the study of math is actually a springboard to increasing your overall intelligence. It’s no surprise that our students are getting “A’s” in “not just math” and making Honor Roll or Dean’s List!
Many students felt insecure prior to coming to our center while they have been struggling or failing in math for a long time. This insecurity carried over other aspects of these students’ life as they stayed to themselves or did not have the confidence to try out any organized sports in school or they felt like social clubs weren’t for them.
But these same students that tell us how they “never fit in” or weren’t popular seem to come alive in our small group sessions! We provide a safe, non-intimidating environment where we all want each other to succeed. There are no bullies or students trying to one up each other on our watch.
You’ll get nothing but a lot of support and friendship from our members and Coaches at NotJustMath. It’s easy to make new friends here and, as a result, our community thrives. We provide the kind of environment that promotes respect, friendship, encouragement, and motivation. The sense of fulfillment after every session is more than you can imagine.
The real fun comes from mastery of mathematics which cannot happen without first mastering the fundamentals. So, our students work hard, but they play even harder! Laughing, smiles and feeling good about yourself are part of every session.
